G20 protesters held overnight
Two London men were arrested and held overnight for putting up posters that “promote disruption” at the G8 and G20 summits in Toronto, police say.
London police say the two men were seen by officers in the area of Egerton St. and Frances St. at about 10:15 p.m.
The two men were gluing posters onto Canada Post mail boxes and utility boxes.
“Gluing is a form of graffiti,” said Const. Amy Phillipo.
“The officers discovered the negative message with content relating to the disruption and resistance to the G8 and G20 on the posters and continued a prudent investigation of the intent of the two accused males," Phillipo said.
"To fully investigate whether the individuals are a threat to community safety, they were held in custody for a court appearance.”
The damage to the boxes is about $700.
It's not unusual for people caught defacing property to be held overnight in cells, Phillipo said.
The men were to appear in court Wednesday.
Darius Mirshahi, 25, and Andrew Cadotte, 19, both of London, face seven counts each of mischief.

World leaders will gather in Huntsville and Toronto for the G8 and G20 summits later this month. Security has been beefed up in Toronto, and many protesters are expected to descend on the city.
The G8/G20 meetings took place in Ontario from June 25-27, 2010. Toronto-based organizations of women, people of colour, indigenous peoples, the poor, the working class, queer and trans people and disabled people organized a peoples convergence with 40,000 people taking to the streets, standing up for justice in collaboration and solidarity!
Activists, community members, inspired and outraged individuals came together as a movement to demand justice for people and the planet. Over a week of mobilizations, events, workshops and direct actions took place in the face of state and police repression, violence and infringements on rights and freedoms.
We must continue to mobilize and build greater solidarity among our communities- an important part of this is supporting all those arrested during the G20 summit, including our allies still in detention, and those released on bail.
