The Hamilton Coalition Against the G20 welcomes you to join us on Thursday, August 26 at 6:00pm for an important fundraiser event focusing on the economic policies coming out of the G20 Summit. The event will feature
discussion on these measures and what they will mean for people and
communities in Canada and internationally. All proceeds will be donated by
the Coalition directly to the G20 Legal Defence Fund which is used to cover
the legal costs of those arrested.
At the event, we will hear from local unions, anti-poverty organizations and
others concerned, followed by live music. Dinner will be provided and there
will be a silent auction featuring the work of local artists and community
members. To donate items, artistic or otherwise, please contact us.
The Coalition again reiterates its support for all those arrested by at the
G20 for taking a just stand against this illegitimate organization whose
sole aim is to facilitate the powerful capitalist states, and the global
monopolies they represent, to pursue their private, socially destructive
agendas and further concentrate power in their hands. The repression at the
G20 is an attempt to block people from opposing the policies of this
organization, such as austerity and debt reduction. Over 1,400 people were
arrested during and after the G20 summit. The legal costs incurred by those
forced to defend themselves in court will be far more than any one
individual or collective can afford. The monies raised will contribute to
covering the costs of the legal defence of those facing charges.
*Call to Endorse:*
We call on all organizations to endorse this event by contributing $20 or
more to the fundraising campaign. In this way, we stand together in defence
of the rights of all.
*About the Hamilton Coalition Against the G20: *
The Hamilton Coalition Against the G20 is an organization of groups and
individuals working to educate and mobilize Hamiltonians on the question of
how the G20 impacts their lives. As part of its work, the Coalition has
organized and supported events providing information and fostering
discussion amongst Hamiltonians. We organized free buses to attend the
Toronto protests on June 25 and 26, providing everyone with safety kits and
pertinent information. The Coalition has also distributed 10,000 leaflets at
weekly sessions in downtown Hamilton since May 12, 2010. Post-Summit, the Coalition has been working to support all those arrested, detained and
harassed at the protests and to engage Hamiltonians in summing up what took place at the Summit both outside and inside the fence.

The G8/G20 meetings took place in Ontario from June 25-27, 2010. Toronto-based organizations of women, people of colour, indigenous peoples, the poor, the working class, queer and trans people and disabled people organized a peoples convergence with 40,000 people taking to the streets, standing up for justice in collaboration and solidarity!
Activists, community members, inspired and outraged individuals came together as a movement to demand justice for people and the planet. Over a week of mobilizations, events, workshops and direct actions took place in the face of state and police repression, violence and infringements on rights and freedoms.
We must continue to mobilize and build greater solidarity among our communities- an important part of this is supporting all those arrested during the G20 summit, including our allies still in detention, and those released on bail.
